Ri Gastro Double Spring Celebration – With Sardines and Cherries on the Menu


The Mediterranean diet has been hailed as the standard for proper nutrition. It benefits our health and people who regularly eat food from the Mediterranean tend to live longer, which is corroborated by scientific research. The golden characteristics of the Mediterranean include the regular consumption of fish, especially pelagic fish, an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables and premium olive oil and wine in moderate quantities. The first Ri Gastro week, which will take place from 30 May to 6 June, is dedicated to the fishermen's favourite – the sardine, a modest pelagic fish with an impressive nutritional composition that allows the body to function properly. During the week, the restaurateurs in Rijeka will be preparing delicious sardine dishes according to traditional and creative recipes. Then, from 7 to 16 June, it's time for the harbinger of summer – the cherry, which is sweet, curative and at its most succulent and healthiest in mid-June, precisely during the celebration of St. Vitus, the patron saint of Rijeka, when one can try simple and imaginative treats as well as a couple of savoury dishes.
