After a short winter break, spring heralds the new Ri Gastro season.
With its detoxifying qualities, there is no food that exemplifies a new
beginning better than the asparagus. A vegetable fit for kings, a
treasure trove of good health, a food, medicine and an aphrodisiac...
These are all epithets used by asparagus aficionados to describe their
fascination with this vegetable, which has been considered a symbol of
the awakening of life and nature since time immemorial. Asparagus is one
of the oldest self-seeding plants in the Mediterranean and its
medicinal qualities have been documented for millennia. The Ri Gastro
event will be centred around asparagus from 19 to 26 April, during which
time the caterers in Rijeka and its surrounding area will be offering
innovative, delicious and affordable delicacies. Then there is also the
